Great news for the Yellow Jelly team in Ipswich. Coes Department Store the family run business based in East Anglia has appointed Yellow Jelly to help develop their womenswear brand.
Coes was established in 1928 by William David Coe, it prided itself on offering a wide range of quality clothing. That ethos remains today, as does the commitment to providing high levels of service and customer care. Their staff are friendly and knowledgeable and will always do their utmost to ensure customer satisfaction.
Unlike many independents they are a thriving enterprise that is always looking to expand and improve their facilities. Their flagship store at Norwich Road, Ipswich continues to grow and now covers over 36,000 sq ft. Throughout the group you will always find something being added, decorated, or improved. They also enjoy offering their customers new ideas and services. With this in mind, they have either relocated their shops to larger premises, or expanded into adjoining sites. The net result is to that they provide their visitors with an enhanced shopping experience.
Our first mini-project is a fashion show flyer for a show to be held at Woodbridge School in Woodbridge, Suffolk. Next we will be looking at the advertising for their Norfolk and Newmarket stores.

Over the last few years it has been disappointing at the quality of the students coming out of the UK’s Art Colleges and Universities. We have had a number of them pass through Yellow Jelly. What amazes us is what are they really teaching these students? Are they teaching them how to think, or how to write and understand briefs? Are they teaching them how to use the technology and most of all how to communicate? We think not. But there is light. Great news, the famous advertising school, The School of Communication Arts is to be reborn, once dubbed the UK’s ‘creative university’. The original School of Communication Arts closed its doors in 1995. Two of our senior partners were at the school, one in 1991 and one in 1992.
The old School was the brainchild of John Gillard, (RIP) after it closed it’s doors, it seemed unbelievable that Britain which still even now leads the world in advertising creativity, couldn’t find the money needed to carry on the school’s much needed work. John Gillard and The School of Communication Arts was responsible for some great creative talents. Many who now have been very successful and become ‘ideapreneurial’.
This is something that seems to be lacking in current teaching. But fear not, this September will see the reopening of the school in London, and a Manchester off-shoot planned for a later date. The aim is to establish a college whose intake isn’t only diverse but one where the industry helps guide what’s taught and has a stake in it success. This is great news, so students start saving.

TAKE A FRESH LOOK
Yellow Jelly has created a tactical advertising campaign for Seatons Estate Agents to run in the local daily and evening press. The first phase of the campaign consists of three double page spreads about moving in spring. Yellow Jelly has introduced a new line ‘take a fresh look’.
Part of the brief is to project the message ‘a wealth of property selling experience’ as they enter their 21st year of business in Ipswich.
The look and feel of the ads have been given a slight refreshment, as will the rest of their marketing materials receive over the next few weeks.

Electronic Arts, the world’s biggest games publisher (the creator of Fifa and The Sims) was a company, where one of our Yellow Jelly Partners, Mark Casey spent a whole year creating and producing branding and marketing materials for EA’s European market. “It was a game players dream come true. We had to game everyday so we knew the products inside out.” Mark said.
Mark’s role was to assist in building the in house creative department for the European division of EA. “It was literally, play hard, work hard.” Mark remembers his first week there. “I had only been there for a week and the whole of EA Europe (approx 400 staff) were treated to a weekend at Euro Disney Paris. It was a fantastic weekend and set the stone for the year ahead” Mark says.
The mid-to-late nineties was a busy period. There was the launch of the in house agency called ‘Noise Advertising’. Press, poster, TV and radio campaigns where created and produced by the new agency for EA sports. TV commercials were created, and posters were erected in Moscow’s main central square to promote the launch of the new ‘Soviet Strike’ game. This was a great PR stunt, that saw coverage in the game’s press…(more to come)
So play hard. Work hard. And most of all have fun.
