Simon, one of our Jelly Babies, has designed and artworked quite a number of corporate and annual reports in his time. We asked him to contribute to the blog to explain a little more about the design process.
At Yellow Jelly we like to understand our clients business before deciding what elements to use to best represent your company and tell your story in the most engaging, effective way. Lets face it. if we don’t know what you want to say, how can we help you communicate it to your stakeholders?
There are many elements that make up a good corporate report these include:
1. Format
2. Budget
3. Navigation
4. Photography
5. Illustration
6. Sustainability
7. Tone of voice
8. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
9. Information Graphics
This is the first of our corporate blogs which focusses on format.
A corporate report doesn’t have to always adhere to the A4 format. Although efficient use of paper and a familiar page size, it can become predictable and boring. Reducing size and weight can also save money with postage, especially important when you have a large mailing list. NGT required a CSR report for both external and internal audiences following the Annual Report theme of ‘Experts in Networks’ and expressed a desire for something different. A poster wrap was produced, with the 6 ‘experts’ shown in the report acting as case studies on the coated side of the poster, with the uncoated reverse showing performance at a glance data. When folded back the ‘expert’ was juxtaposed with the ‘network’ on the cover enticing the reader to open the poster. The whole report was very well received internally with staff putting the posters up in their offices and externally the feedback was very positive with stakeholder comments like “Great format, the multi-use of the puropse is very engaging” and “Love the format, and information is presented in a clear, concise engaging manner”.
